One of Australia’s leading percussionists and ARIA award winner BOBBY SINGH presents his new project KHAYAL TRIO in Newcastle. Featuring Bobby Singh (tabla), Sarah Hyland (voice) & Damian Wright (guitar).Three friends from three different musical backgrounds take to the stage and create a collaboration of beautiful music through their traditions of Flamenco, Hindustani classical and Jazz. With a genuine love and respect for all three genres they intertwine and play with rhythm and melody to merge their individual voices into a unique soulful sound. An Indian Classical musician, a Jazz singer and a Flamenco guitarist.

Outside of the milieu of Indian classical music, Bobby has also formed many partnerships with some of Australia’s best known musicians. Crossing many styles of music from Drum & Bass with The Bird to Western Classical with Slava Grigoryan to Blues & Roots with John Butler & Jeff Lang.He has received a creative fellowship award from Australia Arts Council and is the first Indian musician to win an ARIA award with Djan Djan.In the last few years he has been performing regularly in India with many of his cross cultural collaborations.
A disciple of the great maestro Aneesh Pradhan,Bobby Singh is one of the most sought-after musicians on the Australian world music circuit and is the first choice for musicians from India touring Australia and New Zealand.
Bobby has played with such luminaries as slide Guitarist Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Purbayan Chatterjee, Shashank Subramanium & Guru Karaikudimaniand his guru Aneesh Pradhan.

MATTHEW SHEENS

RETURNING FROM NEW YORK THE ACCLAIMED PIANIST MATTHEW SHEENS IN NEWCASTLE WITH A LINE UP OF STELLAR MUSICIANS.

In 2004 Matthew toured with his quartet across the USA performing his original music. Matthew graduated from the the University of Adelaide in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music (1st class hons) with the University Medal, Most Outstanding Undergraduate and honours Graduate.

In 2009 Matthew became the first Australian to win a Downbeat Magazine Student Award (best soloist category), and received a scholarship to pursue his Masters in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA, studying with Fred Hersch and Jason Moran. In the same year Matthew received prestigious scholarships, including the Dame Ruby Litchfield Scholarship (South Australian Youth Arts Board) and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant (Victoria) to assist his pursuit of music in the USA. Matthew has also been awarded grants from the Australia Council for the Arts, the Southern Jazz Club (SA), and the Carpe Diem Trust (SA).
Matthew has performed with many musical luminaries including Bob Mintzer, Chris McNulty, Paul Bollenback, Bob Moses, Cecil McBee, Jim Pugh, John Hoffman, Tom Patitucci, Jerry Bergonzi, Jon Gordon and performs reguarly with bassist John Patitucci.

Matthew has performed across Australia, USA, New Zealand, Japan, The Netherlands, at the Jazz Hoeilaart International Jazz Festival in Belgium, Montreux International Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Europafest in Romania, Australia’s Wangaratta Jazz Festival, and at the International Panama Jazz festival in Panama City.

In 2011 Matthew moved to New York City where he is currently engaged in a number of projects as a pianist and composer.

In 2012 Matthew released his debut album, Every Eight Seconds, to wide acclaim and won the 2013 APRA/AMCOS Professional Development Award. Matthew will be releasing his second album Untranslatable through ABC Music in August 2014

‘Approaching his guitar as if each of its six strings were a separate instrument, fingerstyle guitarist Adam Miller is a groove machine, creating a sound that invites comparisons to Tuck Andress and Charile Hunter’ – Acoustic Guitar Magazine. It’s this talent that has seen him play with Les Paul, Tommy Emmanuel, Martin Taylor, Matt Schofield, Charlie Hunter, Bruce Mathiske, Adam Levy (Norah Jones), Joe Robinson, Tony McManus, Jim Black, Ben Gillies (Silverchair), and the list continues…. Australian Fingerstyle Champion (2002), Miller has played an array of International & National festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Australian Blues Festival, A Day On The Green, Jazz In The Vines, and the Woodstock, Melbourne, and Adelaide International Guitar Festivals. He is a regular artist at NAMM (Los Angeles & Nashville) and Musikmesse (Germany) shows where he plays for some of the world’s most respected guitar companies and luthiers. He has also done two tours to Afghanistan performing for the Australian & Allied Forces.
