SEPTEMBER 10TH, THE HOT POTATO BAND!

Prepare to have an incredibly fun night!! The Hot Potato Band found their roots and musical inspiration in Sydney’s southern suburbs as street performers running over 120 shows a year all around Australia. An incredible performance at Festival Of The Sun 2013 opened the doors to new ideas and opportunities which were further realised after the perfect collaboration with Dylan Wright in 2014. Anything could happen! Known to cause a severe case of happy fever the 11 piece, fresh sounds brass band is sure to put a smile on your face in an incredibly unique live show. After returning from their acclaimed performances at Woodford Folk Festival 2015, the Hot Potato Band have become one of the most celebrated performing bands in Australia both on and off the stage. Beware, as they make you the centre of their performance… literally!
The bands unique sound comes from the absence of a single drum kit, bass guitar and electrified instruments. Three drummers create synchronised grooves on what would be a deconstructed drum kit. The bass lines are covered by an enormous, lung busting Sousaphone. Two baritone saxophones mimic the part of a rhythm guitar and the bands huge array of horns cover catchy chorus lines and provide a beautiful harmonic cloud for Dylan (the vocalist) to float above.

OCTOBER 1ST TRIPLE ARIA WINNER JOSEPH TAWADROS

On October 1st returning to Australia from London where he now resides, legendary Australian musician JOSEPH TAWADROS will perform a special concert in NEWCASTLE by popular demand! pre-bookings strongly recommended!! tix available through www.trybooking.com/MLEJ

The sage musicality of Australian oud player and composer, Joseph Tawadros, is demonstrated at full strength on his latest album, World Music as he enlists an array of intriguing instruments from across the planet to create richly textured global landscapes. The album moves easily from hypnotic rhythms to subtle stillness, from exhilarating dances to swaggering grooves. It can be ethereal, sensual and joyful, all united by Joseph’s integral musicianship. Joseph forges his own odyssey across cultures, traditions, borders and time, playing multiple instruments alongside his oud. “For the ‘World Music’ album, I immersed myself in a range of genres, drawing upon my previous collaborations – practicing, adapting, improvising – letting my technical limitations on each instrument guide the course of the compositions. This is a very organic way of music making, letting the spirit of each instrument flow through me without striving for virtuosity.
’World Music’ is a soundtrack to the mind where music inspires imagination. Essentially, this is what binds us: No matter where we’re from, we are not so different.”

‘His profound instinct for making music that is a mirror of truth; a bridge between his heart and mind and those of his listeners.’ Sydney Morning Herald

“Sassy, talented, and oh so hot right now” – Made in Argentina Festival, 2013

TICKETS ON SALE NOW! www.trybooking.com/MXQD
Australia’s premiere tango quintet are now supersizing to an 8 piece ‘Orquesta Típica’ for this special collaboration. Tángalo have continued to delight both Australian and international audiences with their signature blend of Golden-era and modern tango music. The combined forces of the enigmatic Argentine bandoneón, double bass, strings, piano and vocals, make Tángalo’s sound both instantly recognisable and unlike anything else on the Australian music scene.

Tángalo is no stranger to incredible collaborations with tango maestros of the world and this next will be no exception. They have toured with Latin-grammy nominated ‘Duo Ramirez-Satorre’ in 2015, studied and performed alongside the greats in Buenos Aires in 2014 and combined forces with the wonderful vocal talents of Fabian Rodriguez in 2013.

Their special guest is Nestor Vaz, from Montivideo, Uruguay and is a bandoneonist of considerable repute. Born in 1948, Nestor has performed on the bandoneon since the age of 14, beginning in orchestras from Uruguay. With many years of collaborations under his belt (as well as a degree in geology!), Nester has dedicated a huge part of his life to the music from the Rio de La Plata region of Argentina and Uruguay and also to the music of the great Astor Piazzolla. His activities as bandoneonist, musical director and arranger have taken him on tour to a vast number of international locations: Spain, Germany, France, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Canada, the Untited States and even Finland.

His collaborations are too numerous to list, however amongst them are acting as arranger and musical director of the great singer Gustavo Nocetti as well as such spectacular events as Avenida Bandoneón, accompanying such tango singers as Ledo Urrutia, Alberto Rivero and Marlene Otero, argentine singers including Raúl Lavié and Eduardo Espinosa, and recording alongside many great musicians & singers of popular Uruguayan music from Rock to Candombe (the jazz of the Uruguayan street bands).

When he is not playing with ensembles such as Quinteto Imperial, Tango por dos and Tango 4, you may find him being a soloist in the Montevideo Municipal Symphonic Orchestra or first bandoneonist in the tango galas of Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra. As well as being declared ‘the most illustrious citizen of the Municpality of Fl
orida, Urugay’, he has also recently released to great acclaim a new album of original compositions entitled ‘Tango Suites’ and finished a season of ‘Hommage a Astor Piazzolla’ in Montreal, Canada.

‘music transcends boundaries’
Koblenz, Downbeat Best Albums of 2015

‘The music of Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli has spawned countless imitators and revivalists the world over, but where others have used the Gypsy swing idiom as a vehicle for virtuosity Weltlinger brings a refreshing sense of innocence to bear. The violinist imbues the melodies and his sound with a lightness and joyousness that can coexist with any sadness or pensiveness implicit in a given piece.’
John Shand – Sydney Morning Herald, January 4, 2015
